How to Track Instagram Unfollowers: See Who Unfollowed You and When

Short answer: Instagram doesn't tell you when someone unfollows you. To check one person, open their profile, tap "Following" and search for your username: if you're not there, they no longer follow you. To find everyone who unfollowed you, you need to compare your follower list over time, by hand or with a tracker that records each change with a date.

Does Instagram Tell You When Someone Unfollows You?

No. There is no notification and no list of former followers. Your follower count drops by one, and the name is gone without a trace.

If your account is set as a professional account, Instagram's insights show how many followers you gained or lost over a period. They still don't show who. You'll see "-3 this week", not the three names.

Method 1: Check One Person by Hand

If you only want to know whether one specific person still follows you:

1. Open their Instagram profile.
2. Tap "Following".
3. Type your username in the search field of the list.
4. If you don't appear, they no longer follow you. You can also search for their name in your own followers list.

This tells you whether they follow you today. It doesn't tell you when they stopped.

If you can't open their profile at all, they may have deactivated or deleted their account, or blocked you. A missing name is not always an unfollow.

Method 2: Compare Your Whole Follower List

To find who unfollowed you among all your followers, you need a record of your list at two different dates:

• Download your information from Instagram, including your followers list.
• Wait a fixed period, such as a week.
• Download it again and compare both lists in a spreadsheet.
• Look at the accounts missing from the second list. Each one either unfollowed you or is no longer reachable.

Pros: free, and no third party gets access to your account.

Cons:

• Slow and manual, and impractical beyond a few hundred followers
• You only know that a change happened somewhere between two downloads
• Someone who unfollows and follows again in between leaves no trace
• Easy to make mistakes when comparing long lists

Caution: avoid "unfollowers" apps that ask for your Instagram password. Giving your login to a third party puts your account at risk.

Why a Loss Is Verified Before It Counts

Instagram's lists are not perfectly reliable: an account can be missing from one collection and still follow you. That's why LoyaltyLens doesn't show a missing name as an unfollow right away.

• Probable loss: the account is missing from a full scan. If it shows up again in a later scan, the suspicion is cleared.

• They unfollowed you.
• They deactivated or deleted their account. It may come back later.

Only the first one is an unfollow. The verification step is there to tell them apart.

Everything above also works on an account that isn't yours.
